A Day full of Activities
Today was a (and still is) day full of activities and fun for all of our 6th graders!
We started our morning early with a wonderful breakfast and than a beautiful hike through the Rocky National Park. Our kids did a great job hiking the trails and learning about our beautiful mountains and geology.
Although we had some mid-afternoon rain that did not stop our kids from learning or having fun!! Not once did the kids complain or STOP:) Today they were also able to create their own quilt square to add to the 6th grade Outdoor ED Quilt. It is amazing to see some of the artwork.
The staff here is amazing and are taking such great care of all of us! The kids love the food!
Tonight we are having our campfire with games, songs and snacks. This is another highlight of the trip that many kids will talk about for many years!
We have so many pictures to share when we get back!!
Tomorrow the buses should be back around 2:30 or 3:00. We will keep everyone posted and let parents know through Facebook, our Website, this Blog, and email blast

The Night Before Outdoor Ed...
I know all the kids are getting very excited, you can feel it in the air at school! Some of them are packed and ready and some claim they haven't even started, but I know it is on everyone's mind!
Parents please don't forget that the weather is unpredictable in the mountains so remember to pack layers for the kids!

We have been informed of a health concern in the Estes Park area. One of our neighboring schools recently returned from Outdoor Ed and was informed that about a month ago a dead muskrat was found and tested positive for the disease known as tularemia. Tularemia is a naturally occurring bacterial disease transmitted by infected insects and ticks to rabbits, hares, muskrats, beavers, and other small rodents. Tularemia has been widely reported in Colorado and neighboring states this year, and you may have seen this on the news. More information about the disease is available on the Centers for Disease Control website: www.cdc.gov/Tularemia/
We are asking that children pack bug repellent for the trip so that we can take the necessary precautions for exposure to bugs. Our staff and the Covenant Height staff are aware of the safety precautions needed to keep our children safe.
Safety is very important to us and we wanted you to be aware of this so you can prepare your child accordingly.

Preparing for the Trip
COVENANT HEIGHTS, ESTES PARK
For three days this week, your 6th grader will enjoy attending classes in this gorgeous outdoor setting. They will attend classes such as Maps and Compasses, Rocky Mountain Geology and Water Ecology. They will also experience and participate in team building activities through the Low Ropes course and enjoy activities like, the night hike, Rocky National Forest Day Hike, campfire and the always famous ZIPLINE!
Outdoor Ed is three days full of non-stop activities, learning, fun and bonding! Be prepared for a very tired 6th grader to come home with lots of stories from their time spent in the mountains!
Check in to get updates while we are gone of the great things that your children are experiencing while away at PCE Outdoor Ed !
